No person shall be considered for admission to a Programme of Study leading to the award of the Degree of Master of Philosophy unless he\/she possesses one of the following from a recognized University in Sri Lanka or overseas, provided that the \u00a0overseas University is recognized by the University and\/or University Grants Commission.<\/p>

i) A qualification of SLQF levels 7 or above (i.e: Postgraduate Diploma, Masters Degree by Course work and Masters Degree by Course work and Research) in the relevant field Provided that the candidates possess a qualification at the level SLQF 5 or 6 in a relevant field.<\/p>

ii) A Bachelor\u2019s Honours degree of SLQF Level 6 in medical, biological and chemical sciences or any other field of science\/ humanities with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant fields acceptable to the Institute and approved by the Senate provided that candidate has scored minimum GPA of 3.0 in the scale of 0-4.<\/p>

iii) A Bachelor\u2019s Honours degree of SLQF Level 6 in medical, biological and chemical sciences or any other field of science\/ humanities with a minimum of 30 credits in the relevant fields acceptable to the Institute and approved by the Senate provided that candidate has scored GPA between &lt; 3.0 and 2.5 in the scale of 0-4 and successful completion of a qualifying exam.<\/p>

iv) A Bachelor\u2019s degree of level 5 in any relevant field given in 2.1 (ii) above, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the scale of 0-4 and successful completion of a qualifying examination conducted after completion of 30 credits equivalent to SLQF 6 in the same or related field<\/p>

v) Any other academic or professional qualification which is deemed equivalent by the Senate of the University of Colombo. Each application under this category shall be considered on a case by case basis.<\/p>

In addition to the above criteria, prospective registrants are required to have a good working knowledge of English.<\/p>

No person shall be considered for admission to the Programme of Study leading to the award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy unless he\/she possesses one of the following from a recognized University in Sri Lanka or Overseas, provided that the Overseas University is recognized by the University and\/or University Grants Commission<\/p>

i. A Master of Philosophy Degree (SLQF Level 11) in the relevant field<\/p>

ii. A Masters Degree (SLQF Levels 9 or 10) in the relevant field provided that the candidate possess a qualification at the SLQF level 5 or 6 in a relevant field<\/p>

iii. A Bachelor\u2019s Honors Degree of SLQF Level 6 in any relevant field given in 2.1 (ii) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at a scale of 0-4, with or without a qualifying examination as determined by the RHDC<\/p>

OR<\/p>

iv. is a registered student of the Institute eligible to upgrade from MPhil registration to PhD registration as described under 2.4 of the regulations<\/p>

OR<\/p>

v. has any other academic or professional qualification which is deemed equivalent by the Senate of the University of Colombo. Each application under this category shall be considered on a case by case basis<\/p>

  1. Prospective candidates are required to contact tentative supervisors directly or through the Institute to inquire about the study programmes available. Notices of study programmes when available shall be posted on the Institute website, by the members of staff with concurrence of the Director of the Institute. Any student willing to pursue the study programme as a paid student will be directed to an appropriate tentative supervisor by the Institute administration.

  2. Prospective candidates may be required to present themselves for a preliminary screening interview and\/or written test.

  3. Prospective candidates who possess the admission requirements and qualify the preliminary screening shall make an application in the prescribed form issued by the Institute and pay the application fee.

  4. Candidates shall discuss with tentative supervisor\/s a research proposal and develop the same under their guidance and include it in the application. When a candidate is provided recurrent costs of the research from a research grant, fully or partially, the proposal submitted shall conform to the objectives of the research grant and recommended by the Principal Grantee.

  5. A candidate who wish to register as a fee-levying student shall discuss with the tentative supervisors whether the facilities required are available either at the Institute or accessible elsewhere through Institute\u2019s collaborations and ensure availability \/ accessibility of required facilities before submission of the application.
