The Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo, proudly inaugurated the 2026 intake of the BSc in Molecular Biology and Bioentrepreneurship Programme and the Master of Medical Biotechnology Programme 2026 intake on 30 July 2026 at the IBMBB premises.

Senior Professor Pujitha Wickramasinghe, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, graced the ceremony. The gathering was warmly welcomed by Professor Prasanna Galhena, Director of IBMBB. The motivational address was delivered by Professor Dileep De Silva, Chair Professor of Community Dentistry and a Specialist in Health Finance, who inspired students to pursue academic excellence, innovation, and professional growth.

Dr. Chandanamali Punchihewa, CEO and Chief Scientist of Genelabs Medical (Pvt) Ltd, shared valuable insights into the practical applications and emerging opportunities in medical biotechnology.

The occasion was further enriched by the participation of all IBMBB staff members, whose continued commitment and support contribute to the successful delivery and development of these programmes.

The inauguration marked the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new students as they prepare to contribute to scientific advancement, healthcare, biotechnology, and innovation.
