On July 31, 2026, third-year undergraduate students from the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Plantation and Agriculture Management, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, participated in a laboratory training visit to the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo. The visit was organized for a group of 27 students as part of their practical module on Molecular Biology Techniques, covering key applications such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), quantitative PCR (qPCR), Cloning and DNA transformation, High Performance Liquid Chromatography and DNA sequencing.
The training sessions were conducted by Ms. Anoma Jayasoma, Ms. Duvinika Senevirathne, Mr. Oshada Vihanga, Ms. Upeksha Wanigarathna, and Mr. Nirmal Perera, who served as resource persons for the program. During the visit, the students gained valuable exposure to the institute’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, advanced research activities, and specialized instrumentation. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen their practical knowledge of molecular biology techniques while fostering a greater understanding of contemporary research conducted at IBMBB.
