The Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo, participated in the Future Forge ’26 Exhibition held on 14th and 15th September 2026 at St. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Colombo 03. The exhibition provided an engaging platform for school students to explore contemporary scientific disciplines and gain practical exposure to applications of science and technology.
As part of its contribution to the exhibition, IBMBB demonstrated a range of scientific experiments and applications, including DNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), immunological assays, and computer-assisted drug discovery. These demonstrations provided school students with an opportunity to observe fundamental molecular biology techniques and understand their applications in modern biological research, biotechnology, and drug discovery.
The IBMBB exhibition activities were conducted with the support of academic staff, researchers, technical staff, and volunteers. The resource persons included Prof. Sumadee De Silva, Prof. Sisira Pathirana, Dr. Lalinka Herath, Dr. Binaka Dasanayake, Dr. Anjana Welikala, Ms. Janani Rodrigo, Mr. Nirmal Perera, Mr. Dimantha Ranaweera, Mr. Sashika Niranjan, Ms. Duvini Senevirathna, Ms. Sefanie Rachel, Ms. Thamali Perera, Ms. Dakshika Gangani, Ms. Hasangi Miyasika, Mr. Madhawa Madushanka, Ms. Upeksha Wanigarathna, Ms. Sivanjale Ravindrakumar, Ms. Keshiah Fernandez, Ms. Aaloka Rathnakaye, Ms.Sarah Azim and Ms. Imashi Rathnayake, .
The Director of IBMBB, Prof. Prasanna Galhena, also participated in the opening ceremony held on 14th September 2026 at St. Thomas’ Preparatory School. His participation further highlighted IBMBB’s commitment to promoting scientific education and creating opportunities for young students to engage with modern developments in molecular biology and biotechnology.
The participation of IBMBB at Future Forge ’26 provided an effective platform to introduce school students to practical applications of molecular biology, immunology, and computational approaches in biotechnology. Through interactive demonstrations and engagement with IBMBB personnel, the exhibition encouraged students to develop an interest in scientific research and gain a broader understanding of the diverse applications of modern biotechnology.
