About

I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree specializing in Immunology and Integrative Molecular Biology from department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences from the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. During my undergraduate studies, I conducted a research titled “Identifying the spatial genetic structure of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in dengue-endemic areas in Sri Lanka Using microsatellite markers under supervision of Dr Gayani Galhena. Currently, I am reading for a PhD at the Institute of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology (IBMBB), University of Colombo on a research project funded by International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Trieste, Italy awarded to my primary supervisor.  During my PhD study, I have studied and compared the immune response in terms of IgM/IgG antibody levels in rat sera raised against the pathogenic forms, Leptospira interrogans and non-pathogenic L. biflexa. Currently I am working with several immunoassays using monoclonal antibodies produced using hybridoma technology, targeting the development of immunodiagnostic assays for early detection of leptospirosis.
